Clear Springs PBC Articles of Faith

As adopted on August 6, 1858

1. We believe in one true and living God – the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one. (1 John 5:7, John 1:1)

2. We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the word of God, and the only rule of faith and practice. (2 Peter 1:21, 2 Timothy 3:16)

3. We believe in the doctrine of election according to the foreknowledge of God, and that God chose his people in Christ before the foundation of the world that they should be holy and without blame before him in love. (1 Peter 1:2, Ephesians 1:4-5)

4. We believe in the doctrine of original sin, of man’s incapacity to recover himself from the fallen state that he is in by nature by his own free will and ability. (Romans 5:12, Genesis 2:17, Romans 4:16, John 6:44)

5. We believe that sinners are justified in the sight of God only by the righteousness of Christ imputed to them. (Acts 20:28, Revelation 5:9, Romans 4:11)

6. We believe that God’s elect according to His foreknowledge, shall be called, converted, regenerated, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:29-30, 2 Timothy 1:9, 1 Peter 1:23)

7. We believe that the saints shall persevere in grace and never finally fall away. (John 10:27-29, Jude 24, 1 Thess. 5:23)

8. We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances of Jesus Christ, and that true believers are the only subjects and that the true mode of baptism is immersion. (Matthew 3:16, Mark 1:10, Romans 6:4, Ephesians 4:5, John 13:14-16)

9. We believe in the resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust, and in a general judgment and that the punishment of the wicked and the joys of the righteous will be eternal. (John 5:28-29, 1 Corinthians 15:19, Daniel 12:2)

10. We believe that no ministers have a right to the administration of ordinances, only such as are regularly baptized, called, and come under the imposition of the hands of a presbytery. (Acts 13:2-3, Titus 1:5-6)

11. We believe that none but regularly baptized members have a right to commune at the Lord’s table. (Luke 22:14, John 13:5)
