Although Noah lives in a horribly untoward, crooked, and perverse generation, he still found grace in the eyes of the Lord and he saved his house by faith and by obedience to God’s commands. In like manner, we can save ourselves and our house by submitting to baptism and serving the Lord in his church.

The only way we have eyes to see the kingdom of God is if we are born again. We have to see the kingdom first before we can enter in. The two on the road to Emmaus literally were in the presence of the resurrected Jesus Christ, but yet their eyes were holden and still could not recognize Jesus due to unbelief. How many things might we miss seeing of the Lord because our eyes are limited due to unbelief?

Prior to the flood in Noah’s day, the heart and thoughts of man was only evil continually. That was the destination, but what began that downward spiral? It was the corruption of marriage, the fall of the family, and just a few generations later the Lord deemed all humanity – except one family – worthy to be killed. We must commit to serving God in our familes to prevent the rot and decay of the untoward generation around us.

When we are given spiritual life, the Spirit gives us spiritual senses, and particularly ears to hear the words of the Spirit. Interestingly, most of the admonitions for ears to hear are to people who already have ears to hear in the new birth, but are not in tune to listen to what the Spirit is saying. We need to be still, be quiet, and be able to listen to the Spirit gently blowing and speaking to us, and hear the still, small voice when the Lord speaks unto us and to his church.

Open doors are very exciting, but we consider how we go from new open doors to a strong, stable, reliable church and fruitful part of the Lord’s vineyard. There are many perils from growing from a babe in Christ to a mature disciple of Christ. We consider the contrast between the Phillipian church and the Ephesian and Asian churches for how they developed after the establishment of those churches.

We study the scriptural law of sowing and reaping. We need to consider what are we sowing – are we sowing to the flesh or sowing to the Spirit in the kingdom of God? What field are we sowing in? What is the quantity of our sowing, and what is the frequency of our sowing? We ought to be daily sowing in the kingdom of God, and if we do, we shall reap daily by growing in knowledge of Jesus Christ daily.

We see the contrast between the ungodly posterity of Cain and the godly line of Seth. The pinnacle of Seth’s genealogy is highlighted by Enoch who walked with God, pleased God, diligently sought God, and the Lord decided to just take him home to heaven as he was translated. We ought to follow Enoch’s example and walk by faith and please and walk with God on a daily basis.

We study the failure of faith that escalated from fear of the Israelites going into the land of Canaan. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but he has given us the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. We see the contrasting voice of faith from Caleb and Joshua and the voices of fear of the other 10 spies. Unfortunately, the Israelites let fear control them and it resulted in them dying in the wilderness and not partaking of the joys of Canaan that should have been theirs.
Preached at Gum Log PBC (Bailey, MS) on 3/16/2026.

The Apostle Paul’s personal prayer requests for the church for him was for the increase of God’s kingdom – to pray for doors of utterance for the growth of the gospel. As Jesus affirmed in the model prayer, at the forefront of our prayers should be for the kingdom of God to come, and that we should ask, seek, and knock and then the door would be opened unto us.
