The Spirit of Truth

Even though Jesus Christ was going away, he told the disciples it was expedient, even advantageous for him to go away, because he would send the Holy Comforter, the Spirit of truth to come unto them. The Holy Spirit reproves and rebukes this world of sin, righteousness and judgment. The Spirit of truth guides us into all truth by upholding the word of God, which is the truth of the Lord, inspired by the Spirit and blessed to be preaching by the Spirit of truth.

Strengthen with Might in the Inner Man

The desire for the Lord and the prayer for pastors after God’s heart is for the church to be strengthened with might (power) in their inner man. Ultimately our inner spiritual health is of the utmost priority for the church. Our outer man will perish, became weary and faint, but the power of Christ can rise up in our hearts and raise up and revive our heart in the inner man. One of the primary ways we are wafted up on eagle’s wings to soar above the struggles of the outer man, is by meditating on the 4-dimensional love of God towards his people.

Patch, Bottle & Spear

We examine a few accounts from the life of King David and look at some ways in which the actions of David point us towards the mercy of Jesus Christ. Just like Saul, we are justly condemned by accusers because of our sin. In spite of Saul’s unworthiness, David showed mercy unto Saul to spare his life because of his respect of the Lord’s anointing upon Saul.

God’s Establishment of Government

In this period of political change and possible turmoil, we consider together God’s will in the establishment of government. God established government for law and order and to protect us from the unchecked depravity of man. The ultimate ruler in this world is the King of kings and the Lord of lords, and God is the ultimate sovereign in this world and rulers only are allowed authority according to the Lord’s will.

The Comforter in Persecution

It is inevitable for the disciple of Christ in this world that we will have some degree of persecution in our life – ranging from reviling all the way up to martyrdom. We should not be surprised when this happens because if the world hated Jesus Christ our Lord, we should expect the world will hate the disciples of Christ. In the midst of that persecution, the Lord has promised to send his Holy Comforter to encourage us in the midst of those trying times.

Passionately Pursuing the Heart of God

God is actively looking and seeking out those whose heart is perfect, loyal, and at peace with him to show himself strong on their behalf. We consider together where can we find the heart of God? We find the heart of God, in Christ, in his word, in his house, and among his pastors. We attempt to follow the pattern of David, a man after God’s own heart, to passionately pursue the heart of God in our daily lives.

Bundle of Life

Using the phrase used by Abigail, we consider the ways in which God’s children are bound up in the bundle of life with the Lord thy God. We are bound in the bundle of life in Christ before the world began, being chosen and predestinated unto eternal life with God in heaven. We were safely bound in the bundle of life by Christ’s perfect obedience and he finished the work of salvation on the cross. Then, we will finally be in the eternal bundle of life with Christ our Savior in heaven.

What Are Your High Places?

“And he (Jehoshaphat) walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.” (1 Kg. 22:43)

God’s people are very susceptible to creating our own personal high places that we don’t see as a problem in our lives, while it actually stands in direct opposition to God’s word. These high places can take many forms in our lives and hearts, and your secret high place might look different than mine. Regardless of what form it takes, God’s word upholds that any high places that detract from singular devotion and worship of God, anything that detracts from obedience to the greatest commandment to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, is something that needs to be purged from our hearts and purged from our lives. We see examples in the Old Testament of incomplete obedience, a willingness to purge out some high places but to allow others to remain. We need to allow the Lord to search our hearts and give us clarity of any high places in our lives that are restricting us from singular devotion to Jesus Christ.

A Ravished Heart

As we set our goals for a new year, our greatest pursuit should be to fall in love more fervently with Jesus Christ. If our hearts or minds have become cold or complacent, we need to pray for God to renew our love of Christ with all our heart, soul, and mind. We need to be excited to seek and pursue the voice of our beloved in worship, singing, prayer, preaching, fellowship, and personal devotion.

Prayer and the Providence of God

As we conclude our thoughts on the providence of God, we consider the effect of prayer in how the Lord sees fit to move providentially in our lives. Our prayers can truly change the course of history, as we intercede for the Lord to move powerfully and providentially among his people.
