Limited Atonement

In the doctrines of grace, scripture affirms that Jesus Christ was a successful Savior – that every one for which Christ died was perfectly saved by his work on the cross. Everyone outside of universalists believes in a limited atonement. Thus, we answer the question – what is the basis of the limitation of Christ’s atonement? Is it limited by Christ’s success? God forbid. We see that the atonement was limited by God’s choice before the world began in election.

Residue of the Spirit, Part 2

We consider the residue and movement of the Holy Spirit among God’s children in regeneration. God has saved and born again his people by the direct operation of his grace, calling them from darkness into light in Christ. None of God’s children that were saved by Christ on the cross will ever be lost but be with God in heaven.

Unconditional Election

The core truth of the doctrines of grace is that salvation is based on God’s choice and sovereignty, not man’s choice. This is epitomized in the scriptural truth of unconditional election, that before the world began God chose a people to salvation, not based on any foreseen merit or good in them, not based on future good works, but solely chose them by his own good will and pleasure and his grace. We are thankful for the truth that God chose us before the world began because in our sin nature, we never would have chosen God to be saved.

Residue of the Spirit, Part 1

We consider the remnant or the residue of the Spirit among God’s elect in this world. God did not love the whole world, did not give his Spirit to all men, but he only gave his Spirit in the new birth to a remnant of this world in God’s born again children.

Total Depravity

When we understand the fall of Adam into death in trespasses in sins in the garden, then the rest of the doctrines of grace should be pretty easy to understand. Man is not sick, injured, or drowning. All of mankind by nature is dead in sins. Dead men cannot do anything. Therefore, since dead man can never commit any action that might be required of them to be saved to heaven, then the only answer must be that men are saved by God’s sovereign grace alone.

The Shunammite’s Son

We look at the example of the resurrection of the dead Shunammite’s son to learn spiritual lessons about our salvation. He was not resurrected by the staff (the word of God), but he was resurrected by Elisha taking the form of the child, stretching himself over him, showing us a picture of imputation and Christ taking our form as a man to give us eternal life.

The Doctrines of Grace

As we crest our ten year anniversary on the Gospel of Grace Radio Broadcast, we go back to the basics of God’s sovereignty in salvation as summarized by the doctrines of grace. We study an overview of the doctrines of grace – of Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Preservation of the Saints. Praise God for his sovereignty in the salvation of sinners and for the good news of this truth that gives comfort and peace to our souls!

A More Sacred Nearness

In the midst of his suffering, Job experienced a more sacred nearness with the Lord in his trial. Our desire is the same as Job’s, to feel our Savior near in our daily lives. We feel the Spirit ministering to the children of God who are laboring and heavy laden to give us a close presence and comfort of the Lord in our souls.

Faith and Hope

In our concluding message on What Is Faith? series, we consider the intersection between faith and hope. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and we are also saved by hope. Hope is a stabalizing anchor in our lives that gives us confidence that God will always be true to his promises and true to his word.

Parable of the Unjust Steward

We study together the parable of the unjust steward. This is not teaching a lesson to be crafty or wily in your business dealings, but rather teaching the importance of integrity in the way we deal with others and in business. We must be men and women of our word, honoring the Lord in all our manner of life and dealings with others.
