The core truth of the doctrines of grace is that salvation is based on God’s choice and sovereignty, not man’s choice. This is epitomized in the scriptural truth of unconditional election, that before the world began God chose a people to salvation, not based on any foreseen merit or good in them, not based on future good works, but solely chose them by his own good will and pleasure and his grace. We are thankful for the truth that God chose us before the world began because in our sin nature, we never would have chosen God to be saved.
